Why this exists

Medical billing is a profession where the difference between knowing what a code pays and guessing is real money. Coding errors, denials, and underbilling can result in significant lost revenue for healthcare organizations every year.

The reference tools that have this data charge $40 to $349 per year and hide most of it behind paywalls. The free tools are stale, generic, or both. MedPayIQ exists to fix that.

Our founder story

MedPayIQ was built by someone who got tired of watching people lose money simply because critical reimbursement information was difficult to find.

It began with a frustrating discovery: understanding what a medical service should actually reimburse is far more difficult than it should be.

I wasn't a medical coder, reimbursement specialist, or healthcare executive. I was someone trying to understand a system that affects millions of patients, providers, and healthcare organizations every day. The deeper I researched, the more I realized valuable information existed — but finding it meant digging through government documents, fee schedules, coding references, and countless scattered resources.

As someone passionate about technology, automation, and AI, I saw an opportunity to organize that information to save time, reduce confusion, and help people make better decisions. That's why I built MedPayIQ. The goal was never to replace professional expertise — it was to make trusted reimbursement information easier to access, understand, and use.

Where the data comes from

All reimbursement rates are pulled directly from the CMS Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (RVU25A release, December 23, 2024). When CMS publishes new figures, MedPayIQ updates.

Geographic adjustments use the official 2025 Geographic Practice Cost Index (GPCI) values for all 109 Medicare localities. The math is the same math CMS uses to calculate payments: work RVU times work GPCI, plus practice expense RVU times PE GPCI, plus malpractice RVU times MP GPCI, all multiplied by the conversion factor.

Every dollar figure on this site can be traced back to a specific CMS source.

What makes it different

  • State-adjusted rates, free

Pick your Medicare locality once. Every code you view from then on shows the rate for your state, not a national average.

  • Real billing intelligence

Specific modifier guidance, common denial reasons, and appeal strategies for each code. Written for billing professionals, with plain-English summaries for everyone else.

  • Annual rate refresh, automated

When CMS releases new rates each January, MedPayIQ updates within days. No stale data, no waiting for someone to manually refresh a spreadsheet.

A note on accuracy

Reimbursement estimates on this site are for informational purposes. Actual payment depends on payer contracts, local coverage determinations, modifier combinations, and documentation submitted. Always verify with CMS and your individual payers before billing decisions. MedPayIQ is not a substitute for a certified coder or compliance review.
